Introducción al Taichi

This course is a fantastic introduction that will take you through all the core skills we explore in our other content. Each lesson is like a complete class. Simply wear comfortable clothing, clear some time, and follow along.

We're big fans of the basics here at Tai Chi School and it's only by repeating and practising these basic concepts over and over again that you can really take your skill to the next level, which is why this course is suitable for exactly that.

Finally, if you're thinking about starting your own class or want to improve your teaching, these model lessons are a great place to start developing your own teaching practice.

Wudang Taiji Tai He Form

The form contains the five main postures, stances or movements of Chen Tai Chi. These are: Tai Chi Stance, Lazily Tying Coat, Single Whip, White Crane Spreads its Wings, and Diagonal Posture. While the form is short and the movements can be learned relatively quickly, the core concepts are exactly the same as the long forms. The essence of Chen Tai Chi is the five stepping methods and eight energies: principles and concepts which are very hard to learn and will take a long time. This form keeps the practitioner focussed on the essential mechanics, which are much more important to learn than memorising long routines

Silk Reeling

Silk reeling is the principal method of movement within Chen Tai Chi. It is considered the essence of Tai Chi as a whole and helps develop health, relaxation, and martial abilities. Silk reeling exercises involve continuous rounded and spiral movements utilising the whole body. The continuous movements loosen the joints and develop relaxation, efficiency of movement, and whole body power.

Warm Ups

Tai Chi warm ups are also Qigong exercises, opening up meridians and increasing blood and energy flow to your whole body. The warm up introduces key movements and techniques for all Tai Chi forms.

Choose from a short, medium and long warm up based on convenience to you. Contains a detailed explanation about each movement and its role in Tai Chi theory.

Standing Meditation

It's a training method in which static postures are held to develop correct structural alignment, to develop efficiency in movement and allow maximal strength for martial applications. When combined with Qigong breathing exercises it helps to develop deep levels of relaxation and body awareness, and helps remove blockages and increase circulation of internal energy (Qi).

This unit is a great introduction and reference for your Standing Meditation practice.

Stepping

Stepping exercises are the same legwork as silk reeling, with some movement added. Practising stepping develops your root, balance and leg strength, and starts to teach the foot work and leg work of Tai Chi.

Stepping can seem simple, but is an utterly essential skill as without it your Tai Chi will suffer. This unit is a great introduction and reference to make sure your stepping is en pointe.

Ba Duan Jin

Each exercise has a physical purpose - opening up your body, strengthening and stretching. Each movement also has an internal function, linked to Chinese Five Element Theory.

This unit takes you through the whole routine, as a daily practice and in lots of detail for when you're ready to learn more.

Qigong Breathing

Qi is the life force or vital energy which flows through all things in the universe and is essential for health. Gong is the accomplishment or skill which is attained through hard work.

These exercises are fantastic for overall health and can be done without a warm up whenever you have the time. Like Tai Chi, the movements are at once very simple but very deep. Practising them will help improve your understanding of both and gain a deeper awareness of how your body is connected.

Martial Applications

In Chen Tai Chi, each movement has numerous martial applications including blocking, striking, locking and throwing techniques. Each application utilises the sensitivity and principles gained from push hands training.

This unit looks at the numerous applications found within the Chen Tai Chi Eight Form.

Push Hands

Through regular practise the exercises can be performed faster and with relaxed strength. The emphasis is to unbalance, lock, or throw your partner.

Push Hands, due to its nature, is hard to teach online, and this is the one unit we think won't work without having hands-on correction. This unit is designed more as an introduction and to help when practising with training partners or friends.
